2021 COMMONWEALTH DAY ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

1. CONTEST OVERVIEW

The Commonwealth Games Association of Zambia (CGA Zambia) celebrates Commonwealth Day every March. The purpose of the celebration is for the education on Commonwealth Day, the Commonwealth Games and its values. The essay competition will enable young people bring out their creativity and their understanding of the Commonwealth. It is open to all eligible entrants with an interest in either writing or sports.

2. CATEGORIES

Age category

14 – 20 years old (Secondary School Pupils).

17- 25 years old (University Students)

3. THEMES

The titles of the essays should be – “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” for Secondary School Pupils and “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming” for University Students.

4. DATES

Open on 19th February 2021 and ends on Saturday 27th February 2021.

1st prize:

– K 500 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

– Publishing of winning essay on NOCZ website

2nd prize:

– K 350 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

3rd prize:

– K 200 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

(University Students)

1st prize:

– K 1,000 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

– Publishing of essay on NOCZ website

2nd prize:

– K 750 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

– NOC/CGA Zambia T-shirt

– Publishing of essay on NOCZ website

3rd prize:

– K 500 Cash Prize

– Award certificate

– NOC/CGA Zambia T-shirt

6. SUBMISSION

i. Work must be typed in legible writing.

ii. Font must be Calibri (Size 12)

iii. Online Submissions Submission to be done online by emailing the essay to admin@nocz.org

The submission to indicate:

– Writer’s profile (Name, Sex, Age, School, Town, Phone number, email address, and Passport-sized photo)

– Title of essay – Number of words.

– Maximum number of essay submissions allowed is 1.

– Submit the document in PDF.

7. NUMBER OF WORDS

The minimum number of words is 600 and a maximum of 1,000.

8. Winners

The winners will be notified by phone call. The shortlist will also be posted on NOCZ Social media Platforms.

The awards will be presented on 8th March 2021 during the Commonwealth Day Commemoration.

What happens after I submit my entries? You will receive acknowledgment of your entry submission.

Only the finalists will receive a second notification.

Work will be owned by NOCZ.

Work will be used in various publicity material including; websites, posters, banners, magazines, and other NOCZ publications.
