ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: ZAMBIAN TAEKWONDO CHRISTOPHER KAJILA

Christopher Kajila is one of Zambia’s most promising Taekwondo athletes. Born on November 18, 2002, he began the sport at the age of 15 at what is now known as the OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre. What began as simple training soon grew into a life-changing journey. The Centre became like a second home to him, a place where he trained every day and built both his skills and confidence.
By the age of 16, Kajila was already known as one of the best fighters in both the junior and senior categories, a reputation that grew as he continued to compete. His rise became more visible from 2020, as he trained consistently and began winning more local tournaments. In 2021, he continued building his record and strengthening his skills, becoming one of the most promising young fighters in Zambia.
Kajila carried this strong form into 2023, when he once again won the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge and later represented Zambia at the African Games in Ghana, showing his readiness for bigger continental competition. Each tournament helped him gain experience and confidence.In 2024, he reached another major achievement, becoming the Middle of the Year Senior Champion, a title that confirmed his strength at the senior level.

His consistency earned him national recognition, and he is now ranked as Zambia’s number one senior male Taekwondo athlete, becoming only the second male fighter in the country’s history to win the National Champion title.
By 2025, his journey reached its biggest milestone yet when he represented Zambia at the World Championships in Wuxi, showcasing his growth and determination on the global stage. Kajila serves as the Athlete Commission Representative for the Zambia Taekwondo Federation, where he speaks for the well-being and growth of athletes.
He also leads his club as team captain, guiding and motivating younger fighters.Kajila’s goals are clear. He aims to stay focused, disciplined, and committed to improving.
His dream is to represent Zambia on the Grand Slam stage and become a professional Taekwondo athlete. He also hopes to inspire young boys and girls across Zambia and Africa to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
From training at OYDC Zambia- Sports Development Centre to becoming a national champion, Christopher Kajila’s story is one of dedication and rising potential. His journey continues to motivate many young athletes in Zambia.
