Alfred Foloko, President of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), has been elected as Vice President of the newly established Association of African Olympic Sports Confederations (CASOL). The election took place during a working session in Yaoundé, Cameroon, where key figures from the African sporting community gathered to form this important continental body.
CASOL has been created with the support of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), with a core mission to eliminate the barriers preventing African athletes from qualifying for the Olympic Games. The organization aims to collaborate with International Federations, the Association of International Summer Olympic Federations (ASOIF), and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to address these challenges.
Among the distinguished attendees was ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf, who joined other prominent representatives from the African sports movement to back the new initiative. The working session also saw the election of Hamad Kalkaba Malboum of Cameroon as CASOL President.

Following the elections, an Executive Council meeting was held, chaired by President-elect Malboum. During the meeting, Mr. Malboum thanked the Executive Committee members for their commitment to advancing the African Olympic Movement. He also praised their efforts in earning the trust of the Constitutive General Assembly of CASOL.
Key Issues Discussed:
The Executive Committee covered several critical topics aimed at strengthening African participation in the Olympics:
Approval of CASOL Statutes: Immediate approval of the organization's statutes by the Constitutive General Assembly was deemed essential.
Strategic and Action Plans: The committee highlighted the need to swiftly implement an action plan, strategic plan, and financing policy to guide CASOL’s operations.
Mission of CASOL: The main mission of CASOL, reaffirmed during the meeting, is to remove obstacles that hinder African athletes from qualifying for the Olympics. This will involve engaging with International Federations, ASOIF, and the IOC.
African Games in 2027: CASOL will support the organization of the African Games, scheduled to take place in Cairo in 2027.
Recognition and Roadmap: The committee set a roadmap for the next three months, focusing on securing CASOL’s recognition by ANOCA, the IOC, and ASOIF. Additionally, the President was tasked with establishing an administrative office in Yaoundé, engaging the Cameroonian government to obtain necessary support, including headquarters agreements and office spaces.
Strategic Plan Development: The Executive Committee has six months to develop and present CASOL’s strategic plan to the General Assembly.
