FOLOKO HOLDS MEETING WITH THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AMBASSADOR

National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) President Mr Alfred Foloko met virtually with His Excellency Do Bong-Kae, Ambassador of The Republic of Korea accredited to Zambia this afternoon.

Ambassador Bong-Kae and Mr. Foloko discussed the importance of strengthening relations between the Korean Embassy and NOCZ.

Zambia’s preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was in the limelight of the meeting. The Ambassador was informed about Team Zambia’s contingent for the Tokyo 2020 Games of which he congratulated all the athletes who have qualified and urged them to make Zambia proud despite the challenges that have come with the COVID 19 pandemic.

Ambassador Bong-Kae asked if NOCZ is aware that South Korea has submitted a joint Korean bid with North Korea to host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Mr Foloko said he is aware and has assured Ambassador Bong-Kae that NOCZ will support the joint Korean bid to host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games.

“North and South Korea hosting the Olympic Games is a good idea which has come at the right time as the world focuses on promoting peace and development using sport as an avenue to achieve this, we will support the bid,” He said.

Mr. Foloko and Ambassador Bong-Kae also talked about the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) 2021 General Assembly scheduled for South Korea’s capital city Seoul in October 2021.

Ambassador Bong-Kae used the opportunity to advise Mr. Foloko and NOCZ on how they can establish long-term engagements with the Republic of Korea after Mr. Foloko proposed an engagement between the Republic of Korea and NOCZ on technical assistance.

“NOCZ can have various MOU’s with the Republic of Korea through the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, you can have further discussions with the KSOC during the ANOC General Assembly,” He added.

The City of Seoul will host the 2021 ANOC General Assembly from 26-27 October 2021 at the state-of-the-art COEX Convention Centre.
