The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone VI has ushered in new leadership following its recent elections held in Malawi at Sunbird Livinstonia Beach.
Zambia’s Hazel Kennedy, the vice president of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), secured a board member position unopposed. Her election reinforces Zambia’s continued presence in regional Olympic affairs.

Meanwhile, Malawi Olympic Committee President Hon. Jappie Mhango emerged victorious in the presidential race, securing a four-year tenure after defeating South Africa’s Barry Eugene Hendricks with a 7-4 vote. Mhango's victory marks a shift in leadership, as Zambia’s Alfred Foloko, the outgoing president, opted not to seek re-election after holding the position.
ANOCA Zone VI, which comprises Southern African nations, plays a crucial role in promoting and coordinating Olympic activities in the region. The election results signal a new era of leadership aimed at fostering sports development, athlete welfare, and regional cooperation in the Olympic movement.
Kennedy’s unopposed election highlights her respected standing within the Olympic community, while Mhango’s win over Hendricks suggests confidence in his vision for ANOCA Zone VI’s future. As the new executive team settles in, expectations are high for continued growth and collaboration among member countries to elevate sports in Southern Africa.
Outgoing ANOCA Zone Vi president Alfred Foloko has since congratulated the new executive ushered in stating “As i conclude my tenure as president of ANOCA Zone Vi, I reflect with immense pride on the strides we have made together since my election in 2021. Our zone has emerged as a leading force within the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), setting a benchmark in governance, athlete development, and the promotion of Olympism. As I step away from this role to pursue my aspiration of serving as ANOCA vice president at the continental level, I humbly ask for your continued support. Our journey does not end here; rather, it evolves into new opportunities to further strengthen the Olympic movement across Africa”.
