His Eminence Archbishop Ioannis of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Zambia and Mozambique confers with NOCZ president Alfred Foloko

On May 14, His Eminence Archbishop Ioannis of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Zambia and Mozambique met with Mr. Alfred Foloko, President of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), at the Metropolis in Lusaka.
The two leaders reflected on their recent successful collaboration during a week-long celebration of Olympic values and the Olympic Truce. The initiative included:

- Opening Ceremony at the National Assembly: Featuring a brass band parade, Greek cultural dance, and the symbolic planting of an olive tree from Olympia, representing peace. The event was graced by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Nelly Mutti.
- Olympic Values Workshop at OYDC Zambia: Bringing together youth and educators to deepen understanding of Olympic principles.
- Presentation of the Olympic Truce Document: Delivered to the United Nations offices in Lusaka, underscoring the call for global ceasefire before, during, and after the Olympic Games.
- School Visits by Greek Olympic Gold Medalists: Two decorated athletes visited government schools, inspiring pupils through interactive sessions and presenting medals and certificates.
Looking ahead, the Archbishop and President Foloko explored avenues for sustained partnership to promote Olympic values across Zambia.
President Foloko commended Archbishop Ioannis for his visionary approach to blending sport and spirituality. Both parties agreed to develop and sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize future collaborations.
Archbishop Ioannis also took the opportunity to congratulate President Foloko on receiving a national award from Republican President Hakainde Hichilema. As a token of mutual respect and shared purpose, he presented President Foloko with a commemorative medal marking 60 years of Zambia’s independence, symbolizing their joint commitment to peace, unity, and Olympism.
