NATIONAL SPORTS AWARDS BOUNCE BACK

In an effort to recognize and appreciate the admirable performances of our sportsmen and women, coaches, sports administrators, federations, journalists, and sponsors in the previous year.


Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts and the National Sports Council of Zambia have launched the 2022 National Sports Awards that will be held on the 3rd of March 2023 under the theme: “inspiring the youth to greatness through sport’’.

Speaking while addressing various Sports Organisations and corporate entities that attended the launch, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Hon. Elvis Nkandu revealed that the event will be graced by the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema at the Mulungushi International Conference Center Kenneth Kaunda Wing.


These awards will be held to rekindle the National Sports Awards the last being held in 2019 and could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to the covid 19 Pandemic.

Further added saying that some of the achievements of the previous year in sport which have to be celebrated and awarded include qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Australia and New Zealand, conquering Southern Africa in Amateur Boxing, and taking the number one spot, dominating Southern Africa Football by winning of 5 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cups through the senior men, senior women, under 20 men, under 17 men and COSAFA Women’s Club Cup through Green Buffaloes FC, being ranked number 2 in the World in Men’s pool, winning gold medals in 400m men’s category at the Africa Athletics Championships and Commonwealth Games through Muzala Samukonga, Zambia becoming the first nation to win an Equestrian Sport junior Championship in addition to the country winning a total of 310 medals in different sporting disciplines in 2022.


The following list of categories will be recognized and awarded:

1. Young sportsman of the year;

2. Young sportswoman of the year;

3. Sportsman of the year different abled;

4. Sportswoman of the year different abled;

5. Sportsman of the year;

6. Sportswoman of the year;

7. Team of the year;

8. Coach of the year male;

9. Coach of the year female;

10. Journalist of the year print;

11. Journalist of the year electronic;

12. Sport administrator of the year;

13. Federation of the year;

14. President’s award; and

15. Medal of Honour.


Nominations for the above categories will be open soon.
