NOCZ Celebrates 2025 Olympic Day

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Friday, 27 June 2025, welcomed several people at the Olympafrica Centre to commemorate Olympic Day, which falls on 23 June.

Celebrations were characterised by various activities ranging from a walk, run, sports demos, certificate presentations and tree planting.

Olympian Rhoda Njobvu, who is the NOCZ Athletes Commission Secretary, in her remarks emphasised the importance of embracing the spirit of Olympism among athletes, stating that it is essential to show respect not only on the field of play but also during other activities.

Meanwhile, National Olympic Academy Chairperson Mwape Zulu encouraged athletes to continue working hard in their respective sports disciplines as they embrace Olympic values.

She stated that the NOA will continue to promote Olympic values not only in sports but also in education and culture.

NOCZ Secretary General/CEO Boniface Kambikambi said that this year’s theme, “Let’s Move”, carries a powerful message for everyone. Kambikambi encouraged all to move with purpose, learn with passion, and discover their full potential through sport, teamwork, and unity.

He further noted that Olympic Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is a moment for reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the core values of sport: excellence, friendship, and respect.

He urged everyone to be active, whether by walking, running, playing, or engaging in any form of physical activity.

To conclude the event, a tree-planting activity was conducted, and participation certificates were awarded to Zambia Athletics, Hockey, Cycling, Badminton, Baseball and Softball, Handball, and Skateboarding.

Earlier sports demos in Taekwondo, Boxing, Hockey, Football, Cricket, and Skateboarding were conducted.

Present at the event were Olympians Association of Zambia President Jonathan Chipalo, representatives of different sports associations, and athletes Kennedy Luchembe Oly and Niddy Minglish, among others.
