The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has commended the Zambia Basketball Federation (ZBF) for hosting the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA) Plus Strategic Planning Workshop taking place from 13 to 16 February 2026 in Lusaka.
Among those attending the workshop were NOCZ Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer Boniface Kambikambi and Vice President Nakaonga Kakoma.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Kakoma, NOCZ President Alfred Foloko applauded ZBF for taking a bold and visionary step by investing in structured planning as a foundation for the sustainable growth of basketball in Zambia.

Foloko stated that strategic planning is not merely a technical exercise but reflects leadership, foresight, and commitment to building strong systems that will outlive individuals and administrations. He emphasized that NOCZ firmly believes that well-structured, inclusive, and long-term planning forms the backbone of sustainable sports development.
He expressed optimism that through initiatives such as the FIBA Plus Strategic Planning Workshop, ZBF will continue to grow in strength, structure, and competitiveness.
Foloko noted that such growth is essential for Zambia to maintain consistent and proud representation at major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.
Foloko further extended gratitude to FIBA for its continued support of national federations across Africa and around the world.
He also commended ZBF for facilitating the participation of FIBA Head of National Federations Michal Konency, describing his presence as a demonstration of strong international partnership, solidarity, and confidence in the potential of basketball development in Zambia.
He encouraged ZBF to remain focused on inclusivity, youth development, grassroots structures, high-performance systems, good governance, and strong partnerships.
Meanwhile, in his opening remarks, ZBF President Maziko Phiri said the FIBA Plus Strategic Planning Workshop speaks directly to the future of basketball in Zambia. He explained that the programme aims to establish a sustainable pathway for the development and growth of basketball across the country.
Phiri added that the workshop will help identify the current status of the sport and facilitate the development of a clear roadmap for basketball in Zambia.
And Konency noted that the workshop will equip administrators with best-practice tools and strategic frameworks aimed at elevating basketball standards in the country.
The FIBA Plus Strategic Planning Workshop has brought together Selected officials from the Federation, and Provincial Basketball Associations to map out the future direction of the sport in Zambia, with expectations that the resolutions made during the sessions will guide the federation’s operations and development programmes in the coming years.
