NOCZ Participates in Women in Sport Conference to Advance Gender Equality

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) is taking part in the Women in Sport Conference, being held from 1 to 2 April 2026 in Lusaka under the theme “Accelerate Action: Scaling Up Gender Equality and Inclusion in Zambian Sport.”
The conference has brought together key stakeholders from the sports sector, government, and civil society to engage in dialogue aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls in sport.
NOCZ Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi is representing the organisation and served as a panellist in a session focusing on institutional roles in advancing gender equality in sport. He emphasized the need to strengthen institutional frameworks to promote inclusivity, ensure equal opportunities, and support the long-term development of women and girls within the sporting ecosystem.

Also in attendance are NOCZ Vice President Nakaonga Kakoma; Vice Chairperson for the Gender and Environment Commission, Col. Priscilla Katoba, who contributed to discussions on women in sport and barriers to leadership; Board Member Mwape Zulu; and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Believe in Sport Ambassador Nchimunya Mweetwa.The Permanent Secretary for Youth, Sport and Arts, Kangwa Chileshe, officiated the opening ceremony as Guest of Honour on behalf of the Vice President of Zambia, Mutale Nalumango. His remarks underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening policies and institutional frameworks that promote gender equality at all levels of sport.
Chairperson of the Safe Sport Commission, Gloria Mubita, is expected to present on Violence-Free Sport, highlighting the role of law enforcement in safeguarding athletes and ensuring access to justice for victims.
NOCZ Safeguarding Officer Prudence Nswana is also contributing to panel discussions, sharing insights on safeguarding practices and the importance of creating safe, inclusive, and athlete-centred sporting environments.
The Women in Sport Conference continues to provide a critical platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among stakeholders. It reinforces the collective responsibility to address barriers facing women in sport while promoting equal participation, leadership opportunities, and sustainable development across the sector.
