The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF), on Monday, 15 September 2025, conducted a training session on organizational safeguarding for the National Olympic Committee of Zambia staff, aimed at building capacity for its partner organizations in Southern Africa.
The training hosted at the NOCZ Secretariat was conducted by NIF consultant Sakalinda Munsanje, who emphasized that safeguarding should begin within the organization before reaching outward, adding that it is not merely a technical issue but an adaptive challenge.

Munsanje also highlighted the principles of adaptive leadership, which include emotional intelligence, continuous assessment of actions, finding common ground, organizational justice, and embracing modern technologies.
He stressed that safeguarding demands more than checklists; it requires leaders who can adapt, listen, share power, and protect even in the absence of a clear manual.
“To build organizational safeguarding, you must begin with a clear purpose, consistency in behavior, and conviction in that purpose,” said Munsanje.
“As an organization, you should take care of people and ensure they feel safe in the environment they are in. Safeguarding does not live in the policy but in how a person feels every day.”
He urged the Secretariat to take the lead in conducting safeguarding sessions by embedding them into already existing activities.
Munsanje said successful organizations are those that have invested in a culture.

He further noted the need to strengthen safeguarding champions within federations to promote and support safeguarding values, policies, and practices.
In closing the training, NOCZ Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi expressed gratitude to NIF for supporting the workshop and for their commitment to protecting athletes, coaches, and organizations.

And NIF representative Nchimunya Mweetwa expressed heartfelt gratitude to NOCZ for recognizing the importance of organizational safeguarding and for embracing the vision.

“This is not just for NIF, but for everyone,” said Mweetwa.
