PRESS RELEASE: NOCZ CONGRATULATES COPPER QUEENS

National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) President Mr. Alfred Foloko

on behalf of the NOCZ Executive Board extends sincere congratulations to the

Zambia National Women’s Football Team for their victory against Cameroon

which has guaranteed them a spot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.


Mr. Foloko who was in attendance at yesterday’s match has described the

qualification as a marvelous achievement for the Copper Queens and Zambian

Football at large, looking at the fact that the win was against the reigning African

Champions.


“As the Olympic Movement in Zambia, we are very happy and proud of this

achievement and I would like to send my warmest congratulations to the Team

for qualifying to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.” he said.


He adds that this qualification will go down in history as the first time ever when

Zambia’s Olympic Team comprised of a female’s football team and the first time

in 32 years a Zambian football team will be making an appearance at the multi-

sport showpiece.


“We are extremely proud of these incredibly skilled and talented young women

whose remarkable willpower, fortitude, and commitment has not only served to

boost their athletic performance and standing, but also the visibility and prestige

of Zambia on the world stage,” he added.


Mr. Foloko has also extended his congratulatory message to the technical bench

and the Football Association of Zambia for the subsequent qualification to the

Olympic Games after winning at home against Cameroon.


Mr. Foloko has further reiterated his appeal to the Zambian business community

to come on board and partner with NOCZ to assist in ensuring that Team Zambia

Athletes are adequately prepared for the upcoming Olympic Games.


The 2020 Summer Olympics officially known as the Games of the XXXII

Olympiad and commonly known as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international

multi-sport event that is scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020

in Tokyo, Japan, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 22 July.
