It is with great shock that I have learnt about the demise of Matildah Mwaba (Mrs) who was until her death National Organisation for Women in Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (NOWSPAR) Executive Director.
As the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), we are deeply saddened.
Mrs Mwaba served as a board member of NOCZ until 10 December 2005 under the executive of Mr Patrick Chamunda. Her contribution was diligent and she will be greatly remembered.
Other than just her service to the board, she was a committed sports administrator who also led the Zambia Judo Association where she served for several years.
As a sports administrator, she will be remembered as having been a torchbearer in the ushering of other women into the sector especially through the organisation NOWSPAR which she founded.
She will be remembered as a beacon for gender equality in sport.
In this regard, NOCZ would like to join, not just the sports fraternity but the rest of the country in celebrating the life of Mrs Mwaba.
We will celebrate the legacy she has left behind, particularly the agenda on women's sports and we shall endeavour to partner with others for the continuation of her vision.
Our utmost prayer is that God strengthens the family in this trying period.
